Laura is a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) who has worked as a professor of counselor education at LSU for the past 17 years, teaching and supervising master’s level students in their pursuit of mental health and school counseling careers. She has authored over 40 publications and is the author of 4 books: Girls’ and Women’s Wellness: Contemporary Issues and Interventions (American Counseling Association Press, 2008), Eating Disorders and Obesity: A Counselor’s Guide to Treatment and Prevention (edited; American Counseling Association Press, 2013); Adolescent Girls in Distress: A Guide to Mental Health Treatment and Prevention (Springer Publications, 2013); and her most recent book for parents, Swimming Upstream: Parenting Girls for Resilience in a Toxic Culture (Oxford University Press, 2016). She is the current Board Chair of the Louisiana Licensed Professional Counselors Board of Examiners and has been a governor-appointed board member since 2008. Prior to her work as a professor at LSU, Laura worked with individuals, couples, and families in a variety of inpatient and outpatient settings. While her primary expertise is in the area of girls’ and women’s mental health, she has experience in helping clients with the following issues:
