Patti Dowling is a Licensed Professional Counselor, National Certified Counselor, and a Certified Child Life Specialist. She holds a Master of Science in Counseling Psychology from the University of Southern Mississippi (2004), and a Bachelor of Arts in Child and Family Studies from Louisiana Tech University (1996). Patti has over 15 years of experience working with children, teens, and adults in a variety of settings.

She has worked with chronically-ill children in a hospital setting, adolescent offenders, and elementary and middle school students in a school setting. Patti also worked as an adoption counselor with all three facets of the adoption triad: birth parents, adoptive parents, and children. She has worked in private practice since 2008 and co-founded Baton Rouge Counseling Associates in 2012.

In her work with children, Patti provides a safe therapeutic environment in which thoughts and feelings can be expressed freely. She frequently uses play based activities such as games and art to make it easier to share feelings. Her work often involves helping children deal with difficulties and teaching coping skills to deal with those difficulties.

In her work with adolescents and adults, Patti partners with clients to explore and define difficulties, develop future goals for an improved life, and implement new skills that help the client meet his/her goals. Oftentimes, she uses cognitive-behavioral therapy concepts, as well as, other therapies such as: solution-focused, narrative, and family systems.
